Woodbury is the largest city in Washington County, Minnesota and is a suburb of the Twin Cities metropolitan area. It is situated east of Saint Paul along Interstate 94. The population is approx. 64,000. Woodbury contains 45 parks covering approximately 3,000 acres and approximately 100 miles of trails. The trails, most of which are paved, connect many of the parks. Three of the largest parks encircle Colby, Wilmes, and Powers lakes, respectively. The indoor Central Park is adjacent to the public library. Bielenberg Sports Center is the primary athletic location, including softball fields, baseball fields, soccer fields, football fields, sand volleyball courts, and an ice arena.
Two golf courses are located in the city: Prestwick (privately owned) and Eagle Valley (publicly owned). There are many local events year-round. A popular summer event named Woodbury Days is held in Ojibway Park each year. Woodbury Days includes a parade, carnival, live music, fireworks, and many booths for the city’s shops, churches, and services. There’s also a nice outdoor pool available by membership in the summer at Colby lake pool. Bielenberg Sports Center (BSC) is one of the largest multiuse sports centers in the state, serving the community and region with high-quality indoor and outdoor facilities, including a 90,000-square-foot indoor field house, two indoor ice arenas, an outdoor refrigerated recreational ice skating rink, 36 outdoor athletic fields and a splash pad water feature. It is home to three local high school hockey teams and is the future home of Madison’s Place, the Twin Cities East Metro’s first completely handicapped accessible inclusive playgrounds. Woodbury is served by three independent public school districts. The majority of the city is located in the South Washington County School District 833. The Stillwater Area Schools (District 834) and the North St. Paul-Maplewood-Oakdale District 622 also provide service to the community.
District 833 operates six elementary schools, two junior highs and two senior high schools in Woodbury. Districts 834 and 622 have no school facilities within Woodbury. However, Valley Crossing School, 9900 Park Crossing, is a collaborative elementary that serves students from all three public school districts.
